The furniture industry combines manufacturing, imports, wholesale and retail activity, and is influenced by consumer demand, working-capital needs, inventory management, and the efficient use of production and showroom assets. Historical financial comparison is therefore useful for manufacturers, retailers, investors and financial decision-makers.
Published in 2020, AGIC’s research is based on the 2018 financial statements of 22 leading Georgian furniture companies obtained from the Reporting Portal. The sample includes one Category II company and 21 Category III companies; only two financial statements were audited. Nine companies were manufacturers, and 13 were furniture retailers.
The companies generated combined revenue exceeding GEL 110 million, held total assets of GEL 95 million, and reported aggregate profit before tax of approximately GEL 3 million. Retailers accounted for 59% of sample revenue, while manufacturers and retailers held almost equal shares of total assets. Four companies ended 2018 with a loss. The report also records furniture imports of USD 59.962 million in 2018, rising above USD 68 million in 2019, while exports increased from USD 874 thousand to USD 1.764 million.
The complete publication compares size-category averages, identifies leading companies by revenue, assets and profit, and presents liquidity, profitability, efficiency and solvency ratios for manufacturers and retailers.
The research should be used as a historical industry benchmark rather than a description of current market conditions. It can support performance comparison, due diligence planning, risk assessment and more detailed commercial or investment analysis.
