The travel agency industry is an important part of the tourism sector, covering travel agencies, tour operators and booking services. AGIC’s research is based on 2019 and 2020 data and, in its financial analysis, reviews 29 travel agencies based on 2019 information.
The travel agencies covered by the study generated aggregate turnover exceeding GEL 219 million in 2019, while total assets amounted to GEL 68 million. The analysis indicates an average return on assets (ROA) of 37% and return on equity (ROE) of 44%. The report also presents liquidity and solvency indicators and a comparative review of major market players.
The study clearly reflects the impact of the pandemic period on the sector: turnover generated by travel agencies, tour operators and other booking-service enterprises fell from GEL 759.7 million in 2019 to GEL 198.9 million in 2020. The publication should therefore be treated as a historical industry benchmark that may support financial analysis, business positioning and investment assessment.
